STATUS OF RIVERS

The status of the rivers can vary from year to year, whether open, catch and release or closed. It is important to check at the start of each season for the status currently applying. In respect of the 2019 season the status is as follows:

Ray River. Salmon angling is catch and release. Open for sea trout angling. Sea trout under 40cm may be retained. Fish larger than that must be returned.

Tullaghobegley River. Open for salmon angling with a surplus of 59 fish. The necessary tag will be issued on request to all Association members who possess a State licence and to visiting anglers who purchase a State licence and an Association permit.  The tag allows one salmon to be retained. It may be used at any time during the season. A limited number of tags will be available for visiting anglers. Only one tag per season will be issued to each visitor on a first come first served basis. Sea trout angling as per Ray river.

Brown trout angling is available on both rivers, subject to possession of state licence and local permit. Brown trout angling on the loughs requires a permit only.
